Devenu Ottawa en 1855 et la Capitale Nationale nommé par la Reine Victoria peu de temps après.

On pense que l’appellation « Ottawa » dérive d’un mot de la Première Nation de langue algonquine portant le même nom, qui signifierait « traite »

Former British military camp on the territory of the Odawa or Ottawa people became By Town (1826) after the construction of the Rideau Canal by engineer John By and also known for working on the fortifications of Quebec City. Became Ottawa in 1855 and the National Capital appointed by Queen Victoria shortly thereafter.

The term “Ottawa” is thought to derive from an Algonquin-speaking First Nation word with the same name, which would mean “trade”
